Grief can make perseverance feel impossible. When you feel like you’re waving the white flag of surrender, it can be hard to imagine pressing forward another day.
However, perseverance doesn’t mean you have to be strong all the time. It just means continuing to take one small step forward at a time, even when your heart feels heavy and your energy gone.
Here’s the thing….
We don’t have to do this on our own strength.
There is NO. WAY. we could keep going after losing our child if we had to do it on our own strength. But the great news is: WE DON’T!
This month’s theme, “Perseverance,” is a gentle reminder that God is walking with you every single step you take. He will never leave you, not one moment.
The 31 verses in this August Bible reading plan are here to remind you that He walks beside you and carries you when you can’t take another step. As you go through each day’s scripture, I pray you’ll be reminded that even in seasons of deep grief, God will give you the courage and strength to keep going.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
– Galatians 6:9

A Prayer for August:
Jesus, some days it’s hard to keep moving forward when my heart feels so heavy. Please give me the strength to take one step at a time and the courage to keep trusting You. Remind me that You are with me in every moment and are there, waiting to carry me the moment I feel I can’t take another step.
Amen.
Perseverance in August
Perseverance in grief doesn’t mean you have to move quickly or have it all together. It means choosing to keep going, even in small ways. God sees your quiet faithfulness, your tears, and your efforts to keep trusting Him.
If you’re feeling weary and unsure how to take the next step, here are 5 simple ways to persevere in faith and hold on to hope, even in the midst of loss.
1. Take One Day at a Time. Instead of focusing on the long road ahead, ask God to help you simply get through today. Trust Him to provide new strength tomorrow.
2. Stay Rooted in Scripture. Even if you can only read one verse a day, let God’s Word be your daily source of encouragement and truth.
3. Keep Talking to God Honestly. Prayer doesn’t have to be long or eloquent. Share your real feelings. Pain, questions, hopes. He’s ready to experience them all with you as you go about your day.
4. Surround Yourself with Faith-Building Voices. Listen to worship music, sermons, or Christian podcasts that remind you of God’s promises and encourage your heart
5. Celebrate Small Steps Forward. Acknowledge the little ways you’ve shown perseverance. Whether it’s getting out of bed, going for a walk, or reaching out to a friend. Each step matters.
