Are you thinking of creating a Bible study basket and are wondering what you should put in it? Or maybe you’ve never even thought about having a Bible basket for your quiet time with God and are curious as to what it is? I’ve got you friends! We’ll dive into what a Bible study basket is and how you can easily create one!

Creating a Bible Study Basket
We all know how important spending time with God is and how it should be a priority in our lives. I’ve talked many times about quiet time: how to bring new life into your quiet time, my 3 step easy quiet time routine, and the one thing that I added to my quiet time routine that changed it all.
But in this post I want to get tactical with you.
I want to talk about how having this simple basket will set you up for success! It will make spending time with Jesus a lot easier (and as busy moms, we need easy!)
I know that after reading this you’ll better understand what a Bible basket is and how it can help you be more consistent in spending time with Jesus!
What is a Bible Study Basket?
You might be thinking, I don’t even know what a Bible basket is. Isn’t it the thing that Moses’ mother put him in and placed him in the river?
While technically that is correct…
The Bible basket I’m referring to is one that you use in your personal quiet time. It’s simply a place where you can store all of the things you may need during your time with Jesus.
Before I created my own Bible basket, I had my stuff everywhere.
My Bible was in one place and then I would remember a book that had a prayer in it that I wanted to read, so I would go and hunt for that book. Then I would need to find a pen and a notebook to write something down God showed me, but I had no idea where I put that pen.
You get the picture.
It was a disorganized mess!
And that would cause me to 1) not want to do it in the first place or 2) cut my time short because I couldn’t find what I was needing.
This basket solves all of those problems!
Why Would You Need a Quiet Time Basket?
Having a quiet time basket simplifies the whole process. It guarantees that you will ALWAYS have everything you might need to have a successful quiet time with Jesus.
Do I use everything that’s in my basket every morning? No.
But if I do need something, I no longer am wasting time trying to hunt it down. It’s all in there. Ready for me to use if I need it.
And that, my friends, is glorious.
The enemy does NOT like it when we spend time with Jesus. Those quiet moments when we connect our heart with Jesus is where our relationship with him is strengthened. It’s in those times that we are armed with everything we need to defeat the enemy! So of course the enemy is going to do everything he can to stop this from happening.
I heard a quote from a pastor once. He said, “If the enemy can’t destroy you with bad things, he’ll distract you with good things to keep you from the best thing.”

We need to keep from being distracted! Having this basket ready to go for you every morning is one step in making our quiet time with Jesus a consistent part of our day!
Plus a super nice bonus of having a Bible study basket is that it’s portable! Wherever you want to spend time with Jesus, all you have to do is carry this basket with you.
Want to sit on the couch today? Perfect!
Want to go outside on your porch? Let’s go!
Want to sit in that comfy chair in your room? That will work too!
All you have to do is bring your basket with you and you can feel confident that EVERYTHING you need for your time with God is right there with you.
What You Could Include in Your Bible Study Basket
Let’s start putting your basket together!
Basket
First, and probably the most obvious, is you need to start with a basket.
Look Around Your House
The first thing I would suggest doing is looking around your house. I know you probably have a basket laying around somewhere that’s not being used. Or maybe a basket that is being used but that you can “borrow” for your Bible basket.
This is what I did. I had a basket that was in my room that was just collecting random books and papers. So I went through those papers (which is something I had been putting off for way too long) and emptied that basket so I could use it for my Bible basket!
Amazon
If you don’t have a basket, then Amazon has some great options! I like this one and this one and this one.
Thrift Stores
You could also check your local Goodwill. Thrift stores are GREAT places to look for baskets. I’ve gotten many baskets through the years there and they are definitely cheaper there.
Dollar Tree
Believe it or not, the Dollar Tree has a GREAT selection of containers! I recently purchased several to help organize things in my car for our family trip to the beach. And some of them are really good quality. So if you’re on a budget, definitely check out the Dollar Tree!
Grocery Pick Up Or Delivery
If you’re a busy mom like me and do Walmart pick up for your groceries (all the raised hands go up for the day Walmart started doing grocery pick up 🙌), then you could just add a basket to your next grocery pick up!
You could also use Instacart to deliver it straight to your door!
TIP: Make sure you look at the measurements of the baskets if you’re adding it to your Walmart pick up. Those pictures can be very deceiving. You can think you’re getting a nice, big basket and then end up getting a basket that is 3 inches wide, lol!
Bible
The next obvious thing to put in your Bible basket is a Bible!
I usually rotate through three translations: NIV (New International Version), NLT (New Living Translation), or ESV (English Standard Version
After I’m finished reading in one translation, I’ll switch it up to a new translation just to keep my quiet time fresh!
If you don’t have a Bible, you can get one pretty cheap off of Amazon. Here are some affordable options for you in each of the different translations:
NIV: New International Version
NLT: New Living Translation
ESV: English Standard Version
If you’re really on a budget, here are some very inexpensive options:
NIV: New International Version
NLT: New Living Translation
ESV: English Standard Version
I’m so thankful that there are affordable options to be able to get your own copy of the word of God! I remember back when I was growing up, the options for Bibles were limited to the Christian bookstore and those Bibles were so expensive. I’m so thankful they are making more affordable options now!
Notebook
I think it’s important to keep a notebook in your basket. There are times where the Holy Spirit will reveal things to you as you’re reading the Bible or praying and you want to be able to capture those nuggets of wisdom!
I try not to look at my phone until after my quiet time, so I don’t want to put this in the notes app on my phone, so a notebook is a perfect solution!
I’m sure if you look around your house, you’ll be able to find a notebook that’s not being used. I seem to always have some notebooks or journals laying around.
If you don’t have anything, there are a couple of options for you:
+If you need one right away, then you can drive to a local store like Dollar General, Walmart, or Target and find a notebook or journal there. Discount stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross is another great place to check to get really cute journals at a great price.
+If you don’t have time to get out (or if you have a lot of littles in your life and the thought of having to get everyone ready and load everyone up in car seats to go get a journal sounds exhausting), then Amazon it is! Here are some really cute options for you:
Aesthetic Spiral Notebook Journal For Women
3 Pack Aesthetic Spiral Notebook Journals for Women
3 Pack A5 Lined Journal Notebooks
Prayer Book
Including a prayer book in your basket is a great idea! When I say prayer book, this could mean a few things:
Prayer Journal. This is a guided, interactive journal that includes places to write prayers, prompts for specific prayers, places to journal, things like that. It’s more of an interactive, write in the book journal. Some options for this are:
Prayer Journal for Women: 52 Week Scripture, Devotional & Guided Prayer Journal
The Prayer Map® for Women: A Creative Journal
Christian Daily Prayer & Gratitude Journal
Guided Prayers. These books are not intended for you to write in, but to pray the prayers out loud. These books usually have the prayers written out and you just pray them word for word. My favorite books to use for this are The Power of a Praying… books. I’ve personally used these on and off for over 20 years in my quiet time. Here are a few of the ones I’ve personally used over the years:
The Power of a Praying Parent
The Power of a Praying Wife
The Power of a Praying Woman
Spiritual Growth Book
If you have a book you’re reading to help strengthen your walk with God, then you can include these books in your basket as well.
Perhaps you’re reading a book with a local Bible study group or maybe you’re reading a book about a certain characteristic that you’re trying to grow in, throw those in your basket!
This could also be a devotion that you’re working through. The Daily Grace Co. has some amazing devotions (not to mention they’re just so pretty).
Even if you don’t read them during your quiet time, when you do sit down during the day to read you’ll always know exactly where these books are and you won’t waste time searching around the house for them.
Other Misc. Items
Other things you might want to include in your basket are:
>> Pens
>> Highlighters
>> Bookmarks
>> Post-it Notes
As you’re using this basket for your personal quiet time, if there is ever an item you have to go search the house for that you need, throw that item in your basket!
We want to make your quiet time easy and searching the house looking for something you need is NOT easy! Plus it takes up part of the time that you would be spending with Jesus. Let’s make your quiet time efficient!
What’s Inside my Personal Basket
I know you’re all curious, what do I have in my own personal basket. Here’s a real look in my basket:

And here’s a list of what’s in there plus an explanation of each item:
- Bible. I’m currently reading through the NLT translation. I love this Bible because I feel it’s the perfect size. It’s not too small and not too big. And I love the way it bends when I open it up. Here’s the link for my exact Bible if you’re interested!
- Power of a Praying books. Right now what’s currently in my basket is The Power of a Praying Parent and The Power of a Praying Woman.
- Jesus Calling. I LOVE reading through these each day. It’s very short and doesn’t take long to read. They are written like Jesus is talking directly to you. It’s so great! They also make one for kids!
- I AM. This is a book I bought for my teenage sons to read through. It’s written by Sons & Daughters (John Bevere and family) and it’s all about finding your calling and your identity in Jesus. Which I think is so important in the world today!
- Notebook and a pen. I just found an extra notebook laying around my house that I threw in there. It’s not even a cute one. It’s just one that you buy to send with your kids to school, lol! But it works!
And that’s it!
What’s inside your basket will change with different seasons of your life. It needs to grow and evolve with you! LIfe is always changing. Who you are is always changing. What you need is always changing.
Let this basket change with you!
I pray that as you’re putting together your Bible study basket that it will be a blessing to you. That this basket will help you in staying consistent in your time spent with Jesus.
