Bible Verses to Help You Overcome Fear

Fear is something I struggled with a lot after losing Sam. Fears that I never had to deal with before.

If you go through hard things in your life, fear can be a byproduct of that situation. So how do you handle fear? Is there a way to overcome it?

I pray that as you read through this post, that you will begin to feel the grip that fear has over your life begin to loosen as you meditate on the promises of God’s word. Let the truth that is in these Bible verses strengthen your heart and your mind.

What Causes Our Fear?

Whenever fear is mentioned in the Bible, there are two types of ways man can fear:

+The fear of God.
+The fear that is brought on by the Devil.

The fear of God is a good thing. We need to have the fear of God in our lives.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom” is what Proverbs 9:10 tells us. The fear of God is a whole different topic that we’re not going to dive into today, but just know that this type of fear is a good fear that we should all be striving for in our lives!

The fear that is brought on by the Devil is what we all typically think of when thinking about fear. This is the fear that paralyzes us. This is the fear that is brought on by hard situations in our lives.

How does fear take control of our lives?

When we’re fearful, we have taken our eyes off of Jesus and looked at our circumstances. In Jesus we have no reason to be afraid.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18)

So when we start feeling fearful, we have simply taken our eyes off of Jesus and placed it on our situation that is causing us fear.

So how do we put our eyes back on Jesus?

Speak Truth Into Your Fear

John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” God’s word is the ultimate truth. So the Bible verses that you will read below are the truths you need to receive freedom from the fears that are in your life.

These Bible verses are full of promises that we can claim in our lives! So claim them! Speak them out loud. Every time that fear starts entering your mind, stop and speak the truth of these scriptures over that fear!

And don’t lose heart. Keep speaking these truths over your fear. God’s word WILL accomplish what it sets out to do:

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)
