As a work from home mom finding a cleaning schedule that works can be as exhausting as trying to find matching socks for your kids.
Working from home is good and bad when it comes to cleaning your home. On one hand, your home all the time so doing quick clean ups during your breaks or lunch is easier. But on the other hand, you’re home all the time so the mess can be very distracting.
With a good schedule in place (and a few tips) you can face the overwhelm of keeping your house clean!
But finding matching socks for your kids…I’m afraid there’s no help for that.

How do work from home moms keep their house clean?
Multitask
As busy work from home moms we are queens of multitasking. When I discovered this simple tip, it made such a huge difference!
Clean while you’re waiting.
What does that mean?
Instead of pulling out your phone while you’re waiting on something to finish, clean.
While your coffee is brewing —> Empty the dishwasher
While the microwave is heating something up —> Clear off your kitchen counters
While you’re giving your kids a bath —> Clean the bathroom
While you watch a YouTube video —> Fold laundry
While you listen to your favorite podcast —> Wash dishes
I know that while scrolling through your feed on the ‘Gram or perusing through Pinterest is a lot more fun, it’ll feel so good to do that quick burst of cleaning. And it’s AMAZING what you can get done in a short amount of time.
Split the tasks up
You can do a one day blitz house cleaning and knock out everything at one time. And I’ve had weeks like that. I’m so busy with my work during the week that before I know it it’s Friday night and I’ve done nothing. Womp womp.
But if you can find 15-20 minutes every day to do some cleaning, it’ll help with the overwhelm of an all day clean.
I’ve created a free printable that splits the tasks up into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. So you’ll never feel overwhelmed with all.the.things.you.have.to.scrub.
See below for a breakdown of the tasks and don’t forget to grab your free printable!
Cleaning schedule for work from home moms

Daily cleaning schedule
Morning
Make beds | I have to be honest. I’m not the best about this, but the times that I make my bed makes me feel super productive and instantly makes my room look cleaner!
Wipe bathroom counters | After you’re done getting ready for the day, take a wipe and quickly wipe off the counters and faucet.
Unload the dishwasher | Having an empty dishwasher at the beginning of the day will help in keeping dirty dishes out of your sink. When you’re done using the dish, simply plop it in your empty dishwasher.
Start a load of clothes | I have a large family so I need to run at least a load of clothes a day. If you have a smaller family, you might can get away with every other day. You can then swap over those clothes to the dryer during your lunch break.

Evening
Wipe kitchen counters and table| After dinner and plates and dishes are put in your empty dishwasher (Hallelujah), then take a washcloth or wipe and quickly wipe the table and kitchen counters.
Sweep kitchen and dining room | After the counters and table are wiped, do a quick sweep of the kitchen and dining room. This isn’t a super in-depth sweeping here. Just quickly getting up the crumbs you can see.
Chore of the day | Look at the day of the week and complete the chore of the day. Start your timer for 15-20 minutes and knock it out! More details on this below.
Declutter for 5 minutes | You know those spots in your house that seem to collect everything. Start your timer for 5 minutes and get it all cleared up. When the timer goes off, stop. If you weren’t able to get everything cleared, that’s okay! You can pick up where you left off tomorrow.
Fold laundry | Now my favorite task. Yes, I’m being serious. I love folding laundry because I sit on the couch with my laundry basket and put on one of my favorite shows on TV and fold away. It makes me feel productive while I watch my shows, haha!
Start dishwasher | Right before you go to bed, start your dishwasher. Set your morning and next day up for success by getting those dishes clean. Even if the dishwasher isn’t all the way full, start it anyway. You’ll be glad you did the next day!
Weekly cleaning schedule
Monday | Bathrooms – I find it helpful to have cleaning supplies in every bathroom. So if you have 3 bathrooms, you’ll have 3 toilet bowl brushes, 3 toilet bowl cleaners, 3 mirror cleaners, etc. You’ll keep one in each bathroom. This makes it super easy to clean each bathroom and you don’t have to cart around cleaners to each bathroom.
Tuesday | Vacuum/Mop floors – Since you’ll be cleaning the floors in the bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen on other days, this day is for all the other floors in your house.
Wednesday | Kitchen – You’re already doing a daily wipe down of your kitchen counters and quick sweep. So today is the day to do some deeper cleaning. Get the crumbs that have been hiding in the corners under your cabinets. Move counter top appliances and wipe under them. Clean the smudges off your fridge. Mop the floors. Things like that.
Thursday | Monthly chore – This is my favorite! All of those things that you never get around to cleaning are covered on this day. I’ve even included some yearly chores! More details on this below.
Friday | Bedrooms – This is the day to tackle all your bedrooms. Dust, vacuum, pick up, yay!
Saturday | Catch up day – Did you have a really busy week and not get to everything on your list? I so understand! Use Saturday to catch up on anything you just didn’t have the time for during the week.
Sunday | Rest! You deserve it!!
Monthly cleaning schedule
These tasks are for all those things you might not get to during your normal weekly cleaning. Think spring cleaning type chores. But instead of knocking it all out in the spring, we spread it out throughout the year.
I won’t go through each of these tasks, but I think you’ll love having these bigger type tasks spread out in a much more manageable way!
Give yourself grace and do what you can in the time (and energy) you have. Move these to Saturday (catch up day) if you need more time (and energy, haha).
January | Wipe down inside kitchen cabinets and drawers
February | Shampoo carpets
March | Windows/window sills
April | Garage
May | Outside of house
June | Walls/baseboards
July | Wipe down inside bathroom cabinets and drawers
August | Move fridge and oven
September | Blinds/window treatments
October | Garage
November | Organize closets/pantries
December | Walls/baseboards
Final tips to using the House cleaning schedule for work from home moms Printable
Print it and Hang it
This printable is great. It’s one page and contains all the tasks you need for your daily, weekly, and monthly chores.
Print it and hang it on the side of your fridge or on the inside of a cabinet. Wherever you can see it and it will keep you accountable!
Start a timer
I love setting timers when I clean. It always amazes me how much I can get done in 15-20 minutes. Plus I love knowing there’s an end time. It helps me not to be overwhelmed.
When the timer goes off, if I’m not finished, I either give myself grace and know I’ll get to it next week, or if my energy is still high and I feel like it, I keep going until it’s done.
Enlist help from the whole family

You should not be doing this by yourself! Let me repeat that:
YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS BY YOURSELF!
If you’re married and have children, they absolutely should be pitching in to help you. Take the chore for the day and start giving out chores for everyone to do.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes as women and moms we think we should do it all. It’s our “job”. Let me just bust that – if everyone lives in the house, then they need to be pitching in and helping!
There are lots of ways you can do this with kids. You can create a chore chart and hang it up. Or if you’re like me, I just assign the chore that needs to be done as we start and they get to it. And that includes my husband too!
Give yourself grace
If you’re going through a super busy season in life, give yourself some grace mama. Super busy seasons don’t last forever and sometimes it’s just surviving them that’s key.
Give yourself permission to have some shortcuts.
- Buy paper plates and cups to cut down on the dishes.
- Get pre-cut veggies and fruits to save time with meal prepping.
- Cereal or sandwiches for dinner is perfectly okay (and your kids will love that!)
- If you can afford it, have someone come clean your house one time. (that would be a great gift idea you can give your husband for a birthday or anniversary)
As moms we put so much pressure on ourselves to be the best, have the perfectly clean house, serve your family a warm, home-cooked meal every night – and the realistic news is….
We can’t do it all.
Do your best. Be realistic about what you can accomplish. Enlist help from your family. And enjoy life mama!
This life is too short to be stressed over a sink of dirty dishes.
