Prayer is something that we all know we need to do daily – connecting our hearts with God, our minds with God, and praying over our day. But sometimes, especially as moms and working moms, life can be so busy that we get to the end of the day and realize we never connected our hearts with God. We never talked to Him.
And I don’t know about y’all, but if that ever happens to me, I can feel it. I can feel it if I don’t spend time with Him. So if that’s you and you’re wanting to make prayer more of a priority, but you just feel so busy, I have three creative ways that we can make sure we are praying on a daily basis.

Start Making Prayer a Priority
Have you ever had a moment where you just felt overwhelmed or stressed, and you took a minute, closed your eyes, took a deep breath, and connected your heart with God?
You said a little prayer and immediately felt the overwhelm, the stress, the worry, whatever you were feeling, go away.
That is the power of prayer! And it’s so important for us to do it every day. But life is busy.
I don’t think we ever mean to not spend time with God, to not pray. But I feel like that’s kind of the sneaky plan of the enemy, to make us so busy that we don’t do the important things. The things that we need to fill ourselves up and strengthen ourselves.
I heard a pastor say this one time:
If the enemy can’t destroy you with bad things, he’ll distract you with good things to keep you from the best thing.

All these things that are distracting you on a daily basis, they’re not bad things, right?
+We have to work.
+We’re taking our kids places, to sports or activities after school.
+We’re volunteering, even at church.
These are all good things, but they can be a distraction from the best thing, which is connecting your heart with God.
Making sure your relationship with God is on a solid foundation, knowing who He is. You spend time with Him daily. You spend time in His word. You talk with Him. You build that relationship with Him.
That is the best thing because that is the thing that’s going to sustain you day after day. Especially in this grief journey, where the emotions we feel can be so heavy, we have to make sure our relationship with God is solid so we can fall back on it every time we need it throughout the rest of our lives.
So, don’t become so distracted that you forget to do the best thing, which is spending time with God in all aspects – spending time in His word, praying, and worshiping Him.
In this post I really want to hone in on the prayer part of spending time with Him and building that relationship with Him. Here are three creative ways that you can infuse prayer all throughout your day.

When you think of prayer, you probably think of your quiet time, right?
You sit down, and you have your Bible, your journal, maybe a devotion book. You read your Bible, go through your devotion, do some journaling, and then you pray. Afterward, you get up and go throughout your day.
That is great! I think it’s good to have a dedicated time to spend with Jesus.

But what happens on those days where you wake up late? Maybe your kids were sick the night before, and you don’t have time for that dedicated quiet time.
Does that mean we just don’t pray that day? I don’t think so.
This is when knowing how to infuse prayer throughout your day can be super helpful. Even if you do have a quiet time in the morning, you can still use these tips to keep that line of communication open with God throughout your entire day.
Weave Your Prayers Into Your Daily Routines
My first tip is to weave your prayers into your daily routines. This is actually called routine stacking.
Look at the tasks you do on a daily basis.
Brushing your teeth
Doing the dishes
Driving to work
These are tasks you don’t have to think about. You just do them every day.
Adding prayer to these routines that you’re already familiar with is an easy way to weave prayer throughout your day.
For example, every time you’re washing the dishes, talk to God. Tell Him about your day. If something is weighing heavy on you, just pray to Him as you wash the dishes.
When you’re brushing your teeth in the morning, pray to Him about your day that’s coming up: God, be with me today. Order my steps. Protect me.
As you’re driving to work, that’s a great time to talk with God. You have however long your commute is in a car with just you and Him. That’s a perfect time for you to pray and talk to Him about your day.
Prayers don’t have to be this formal thing where you have to quote scripture or memorize all these things. It can literally just be like you talk to a friend.
That’s how I talk to God. I just talk to Him like I’m talking to a friend. Because he is. He’s my best friend. He understands and knows everything I’m going through, so I literally just talk to Him the same way I would talk to a friend.
Sometimes it’s a short prayer.
>> Sometimes it’s like, Jesus, help me.
>> Or, Jesus, I need Your strength right now.
>> Or, Holy Spirit, I need Your wisdom right now.
When I hit a wall, I just say a quick prayer.
Sometimes it’s a long conversation. Other times, it’s just a short, three- or four-word prayer for something I need in that moment.
The point is, our first reaction when something happens needs to be prayer. We need to come to God with it.
And again, it doesn’t have to be this formal moment where we go into a room and shut the door. We can just do it right there. Pairing our prayers with our daily routines is a great way to weave prayer throughout your day.

Create Prayer Triggers in Your Day
The second way you can weave prayer throughout your day is to create prayer triggers.
What do I mean by prayer triggers? A prayer trigger is when you’re doing something, and it reminds you to pray about a specific thing.
For example, let’s say you start your coffee and are sitting there waiting for it to brew. That could be a trigger to pray for patience.
Or, let’s say you’re putting your shoes on. That can be a trigger to pray and ask God to order your steps for the day. You might pray, God, walk with me today. Carry me through today.
When you’re getting your kids’ lunches or backpacks ready for school, that could be a trigger to pray over your kids. You might pray that their day goes smoothly, that God would be with them every step of the day.
In these moments, you’re doing one thing, and it triggers a certain prayer – whether it’s for yourself, your kids, or your grandkids.
You can also have physical reminders.
Post it Notes
You could put Post-it notes on your fridge to remind you to pray while you’re getting your lunch for the day. You could have a Post-it note on your bathroom mirror in the morning with something specific you want to pray about.
Seeing it physically triggers your mind to say, Oh, I’m going to pray for this.
Phone Alarms
You could even set an alarm on your phone to go off at a certain time to remind you to pray for something specific. These physical reminders trigger prayer and help keep you focused on talking to God throughout your day.
Involve Your Kids in Prayer
The third way you can infuse prayer throughout your day is by involving your kids as you pray. This could look like praying at mealtime, praying at bedtime, or stopping to say a quick prayer if they have a challenging moment throughout their day.
Not only does this connect your heart and your child’s heart with God, but it also teaches them that when something happens, we stop and pray. We talk to God. He’s the answer. He’s the one we turn to every time we need something.
This is so important because it’s one thing to tell your kids to pray, but if you’re actually doing it with them, teaching them and modeling it for them, they’ll learn so much better by seeing you do it.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
When we teach our children by praying with them, when something bad happens and we turn to God with them, that’s exactly what we’re doing. We are teaching them to build that connection with God.
By doing this, we’re also connecting our own hearts with them and giving them spiritual tools that will carry them throughout their entire lives.

Again, I want to remind you of that quote:
If the enemy can’t destroy you with bad things, he’ll distract you with good things to keep you from the best thing.
Don’t be distracted by the busyness of life. Don’t let day after day go by without connecting your heart with God.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to be long or perfectly planned out. You can literally talk to Him throughout your entire day.
Actually, I never say “Amen” when I pray. I just talk to Him and then move on with my day because I want that line of communication to stay open.
I feel like if I say “Amen,” it ends the prayer in my mind. So, I just keep it open. When I’m done praying, I leave it unfinished so I can keep talking to Him throughout the day.
If you haven’t done this, I encourage you to try it. You can use the three tips I shared today, or you can simply pray as things come up.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing.”
That’s what I believe this means – keeping that line of communication open with God. Praying throughout your day. Saying little prayers as you need Him, as something comes up, or as you think of something.
I know this will be such a blessing to you and will help strengthen your relationship with Jesus.
