How to Summer-Proof Your Quiet Time

Summer is the time that all routines go flying out the window.

(Along with our goals for losing those last 10 pounds before swimsuit season ?)

Unfortunately sometimes one of the routines that gets forgotten is our quiet time routine.

It’s easy to have spending time with Jesus be a part of our morning (or evening) rhythm during the school year when the kids have to be in bed and wake up at a certain time. But when there’s no set schedule anymore? It could be easy to let the day get away from us and never pause to connect with Jesus.

Here are a few ways that you can keep your quiet time with God a priority this summer:

Establish a NEW summer routine

Accept that your summer quiet time is going to look different than your school year quiet time. With that in mind, it’s still good to dedicate a specific part of your day for your time with Jesus. Here are some ideas to get you thinking:

+Before the kids wake up
+While the kids eat breakfast and watch a show on TV (no judgement here!)
+During nap/quiet time after you’ve had a morning full of play
+After the kids go to bed and before you lay down for the night

Take it outside

This will depend on the age of your kiddos, but if they are young enough, you can put them in the stroller and take a walk first thing in the morning.

While you’re walking you can listen to the Bible, listen to a sermon on YouTube, pray and talk with God or just be still and quiet and connect with God through his beautiful creation!

Which leads me to the next point…

Use Your Phone

Our phones are both a blessing and a curse. They can definitely take up too much of our time and keep us from being present in our lives.

BUT…they can be a blessing too. Think of all the different ways that you can get fed spiritually through your phone:

+Devotional apps
+Audio Bible recordings
+Sermons
+Podcasts
+You might even be reading this email on your phone!

You have to be careful with this one though because there are at least a million distractions in your phone that will be pulling for your attention. Silence those notifications during your quiet time!

Sign up for a summer Bible study

Looking to change it up a little bit? Join a summer Bible study group or find online resources that offer specific study plans designed for the summer season.

This could be a great way to connect with others!

Whatever happens, I pray that your summer season will be full of memories, laughter, and love spent with the ones who matter most in your life!
