We all know how important our quiet time with God is. It’s something we should strive to do every day! However, when I added this one thing to my quiet time routine, it changed everything.

The One Thing That Changed my Quiet Time with God
I had a pretty good quiet time routine before I added this one thing. I try to be consistent with spending time with Jesus (this Bible study basket definitely helps me in staying consistent!) Now of course there are days that I don’t do my routine, but I really try to do it every morning.
I definitely can tell a difference in the days that I don’t start my day out with God.
But I’m so excited to share with you the one thing that I added to my routine that has made such a big difference in every area of my life.
I’m going to explain to you what I do and how you can start implementing this idea into your own quiet time as well!
Quiet Time in Different Seasons of Life
I try to do my quiet time first thing in the morning. I find that it helps set my day up to be much better. My mind is in a better place if I do this.
If you’re struggling with this, here’s how you can make spending time with God a priority in your life. And sometimes it can also be helpful to change things up a little in your routine in order to breathe new life in your quiet time!
So I would sit down at my desk and open the Bible to whatever book I’m reading and read a chapter out of that book.
I’ve gone through many different ways of studying the scripture. I don’t believe there’s one right way to do it and it can change in different seasons of your life depending on how much time you have.
I found that when I had little babies my time was very limited to myself. So quiet time at that point in my life looked more like just reading a chapter in the Bible and that’s it. And that’s okay!
The word of God is life to us and so however you can get it in your mind and in your spirit will be so helpful.
This can even look like listening to the Bible while you’re folding laundry or while you’re rocking a baby to sleep or while you’re nursing a baby.
I do believe that sitting down alone with just you and God and spending time with him alone is super important and should be something you strive to do. But sometimes, especially as a mom, it’s just not possible.
So in those moments getting the word in your heart, no matter how it ends up looking, is the most important thing!
The One Thing I Added That Changed My Time With Jesus
So what’s the one thing I added?
FIrst, let me tell you how it started.
One Sunday at church my pastor was talking about his quiet time routine. It was a very tactical message and I was all about that. I LOVE tactical messages. I had my pen and paper out and was taking lots of notes!
He started listing off his quiet time supplies:
Bible ✅
Notebook ✅
Prayer book ✅
He then went through how he used each one in his quiet time. Okay great! I was doing similar things to that. Everything is looking good!
And then he told how he ended his quiet time.
He ended it listening to one worship song.
I just sat there I’m sure with my mouth hanging open. It was such a simple thing. However, one thought was playing over and over in my mind:
I’ve NEVER done that. How have I NEVER done that?!
And this is coming from someone who has been on the praise and worship team her entire life. Someone who LOVES listening to worship music. Someone who has worship music playing in the background of her house.
But intentionally choosing one song to stand up and worship God during my own quiet time?
That was something I had never done.
Now you might be thinking well duh Courtney, I do that all the time. And if that’s you, then that’s so amazing! I know your quiet time has been changed because of that!
But on the off chance that you’re anything like me and this hasn’t occurred to you as something to add to your quiet time routine, then this post is for you!
What This Looks Like in my Quiet Time Routine
So what does it look like in my own routine?
After I read my Bible and pray, I take my phone and go into a room where I can shut the door.
Something about worshiping Jesus in my own house is so intimate. I don’t want to do it out in the open. I want to be able to shut the door and go be with Jesus – just me and him.
I also keep it super simple. I just pull up one song on YouTube and set my phone down. I close my eyes and lift my hands as the song begins to play.

A lot of the time I don’t even sing. I just sit in his presence and let the music play all around me.
And y’all, his presence never fails to show up in that room.
Once the song is over, I say a little prayer and then I go start my day.
It’s not a big production. It’s nothing fancy.
But it’s nothing short of amazing.
Why it Changed Everything For Me
So how did adding this one thing to my time with Jesus change it all?
I can’t explain exactly why, but I can tell you that my day feels so different on the mornings I spend just a few minutes worshipping him. A few minutes connecting my heart with his through song.
My heart is lighter. My mind is clearer. Peace fills my day from the very beginning.
If you’re aching for peace…
If your days always feel chaotic…
If your minds are cluttered and confused…
If you feel stressed and anxious…
YOU MUST ADD THIS TO YOUR QUIET TIME ASAP!
Sorry, I didn’t mean to yell at you ;)
If you struggle with any of those things, then adding a time to worship Jesus can literally be life changing for you.
It doesn’t have to take long and it doesn’t have to be hard.
Let me show you.
How You Can Add This to your Quiet Time
If you’re wondering how to include this in your quiet time routine, it’s super easy! And you can make this work whether you’re a planner or a ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ person.
Picking out the song
For my planners out there – simply pick out the song you’d like to worship to before your quiet time.
You can either pick it out the night before or the morning of, before you start your quiet time.
For my more spontaneous friends – after you read your Bible and pray, simply pull up your YouTube app and search whatever your favorite worship band is and scroll until you find one you want to worship to.
Then hit play.
It literally can be that easy.
Location
Another thing you need to think of is where you want to spend time worshiping.
Like I said earlier, I like to have a little privacy during this time. So I chose my girls playroom for my worship room.
If you want to have some privacy – just pick a room where you can shut (and even lock) the door so you can focus fully on that time with Jesus and not worry about someone walking in on you.
If your quiet time is when your kids are at school – then you might not need to worry too much about where this is happening since you’ll have the house to yourself.
I think it would be really neat if you had one specific spot that you spent this time worshiping. This spot could become a special place where you go to meet with Jesus.
Make it easy
My last tip for this will be to make it easy. If it’s too complicated, then you’re more than likely to skip it altogether.
So we need to make it easy!
It doesn’t have to be a big production with everything set up perfectly and candles lit and the lights dimmed.
It can be as easy as shutting the door and turning the music on. That’s it!
Like I mentioned earlier, I do my worship time in my girls playroom, so there are a lot of times I have to push toys out of the way so I can have a place to stand (#momlife). But that’s okay!
Jesus doesn’t care if you’re on a stage with the perfect lighting, the perfect music, the perfect pitch. Or if you’re in your girls messy playroom stepping on toys as you’re worshiping him.
What he cares about is spending time with you.
>>Connecting his heart with yours.
>>Pouring his peace and his presence out on your tired and weary heart.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about consistently getting in the presence of Jesus through a time of worship with just you and him.
I promise you that it will change your life!
