I believe in you.
I believe in you.
You’re the God of miracles.
Chris Quilala from Jesus Culture wrote that after he lost his son.
What could cause someone to sing that, when God obviously didn’t perform the miracle they were praying for?
It’s the same thing that ran through me when I woke up the morning after we lost Sam and with tears streaming down my face, I wrote this Facebook post:

Even if you didn’t answer the prayer we were praying to bring Sam back.
Even if you didn’t heal him.
Even if we lost what is most precious to us.
You’re still good.
You see…me and Chris both came to the same revelation.
God’s goodness doesn’t depend on our circumstances.
God’s faithfulness doesn’t change because I lost Sam.
He’s good and he’s faithful no matter what comes to pass.

How do I know that?
Because I spent lots of time with Jesus before I lost Sam. Just me and him.
I got to know him personally. I began to see his character.
I built the foundation of my faith on the knowledge of his goodness and his faithfulness.
And when that storm hit after Sam died, it completely obliterated every part of my life. There was nothing left but shattered pieces of my heart.
Everything was gone.
Everything but that foundation of his goodness.
That knowledge is the ONLY reason I was able to make it through.
The knowledge that I could call on him and he would answer.
He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. Psalm 91:15
The knowledge that if the burden was too heavy, he would take it from me.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
The knowledge that the more brokenhearted I was, the closer he was to me.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
The knowledge that he picked me up and carried me close to his heart.
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart. Isaiah 40:11
And I knew all of this because I had spent years hiding God’s word in my heart.
Because friends let me tell you.
When the storm is raging and the wind is howling, that’s not the time to flip open God’s word to try and find truth.
God’s word needs to be hidden in your heart from the times in life when the waters are still.
I can promise you, if you hide the word in your heart, the Holy Spirit will be able to bring up the exact verse you need at the exact moment you need it.
Every. single. time.
You might not even realize you had memorized that verse. But if you read it, if you meditate and think on it, it’s inside you.
And it’s a promise we have that God’s word never returns void. It accomplishes what it was sent forth to do. (Isaiah 55:11)
So my challenge to you today is to pick up the Bible and start reading.

Even if it’s just a chapter a day and you meditate on one verse that speaks to you.
Fill your insides to overflowing with the knowledge of his goodness and faithfulness.
