Grief has a way of draining every ounce of strength from your body, heart, and soul. Some days, it feels like simply getting out of bed or facing another day is more than you can handle. But God promises us strength for today – not for all the tomorrows ahead, but for the moments we’re walking through right now.

His strength shows up in our weakness, His power lifts us when we have nothing left to give, and His grace carries us through the hardest days.

This month’s theme, “Strength for Today,” is a reminder that you don’t have to do this on your own. Each verse in this May Bible reading plan is meant to encourage you to lean on God’s strength instead of your own, trusting Him to give you exactly what you need for each step of the journey.

Whether you’re overwhelmed by grief or simply feeling worn out, these scriptures will remind you that God is holding you up, even when you feel like you’re falling apart.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.”
-Psalm 28:7

A Prayer for May:

Jesus, today I feel weak and overwhelmed by the weight of my grief. Please be my strength when I have none and remind me that I don’t have to carry this alone. Help me trust You with each step, knowing You will give me what I need to make it through today.
Amen.

Strength for Today in May

When you’re grieving, even simple daily tasks can feel impossible. God doesn’t ask you to be strong on your own. He offers His strength for every single moment.

If you’re feeling worn out and unsure how to keep going, here are 5 simple ways to lean on God’s strength and let Him carry you through today.

1. Start Your Day with a Strength Verse

Begin each morning by reading one Bible verse about God’s strength (like Isaiah 40:29) and asking Him to carry you through the day.

2. Pray Honest, Short Prayers

When you feel weak or overwhelmed, pause and pray simple prayers like, “Lord, I need Your strength right now.” God hears every prayer and is ready to help you make it through.

3. Turn on Worship Music

Create a playlist of songs that remind you of God’s power and faithfulness. Listening to worship music can lift your heart when words are hard to find.

4. Take One Step at a Time

Instead of worrying about tomorrow, focus on what God is giving you strength for today. Break your day into small steps and invite Him into each one.

5. Write Down “Strength Moments”

Keep a journal where you jot down moments when you felt God carrying you. Looking back will remind you of His presence in your hardest times, giving you the strength you need to make it through that moment.

Reflection Questions

1-Which of these 5 steps feels most helpful for you to start with today, and why?

2-What is one area of your life right now where you feel you need God’s strength the most?

3-How have you seen God carry you through a difficult moment in the past?

4-What song, verse, or prayer reminds you of God’s strength when you feel weak?

5-How can you begin to take life one step at a time, trusting God with the things that feel too heavy?
