Gratitude can feel complicated when your heart is grieving. It’s hard to thank God when you’re holding both love and loss in the same breath. When you express gratitude, it doesn’t erase your sorrow….it gently shifts your focus toward God’s goodness that still remains, even in pain.
Grace meets us there too, reminding us that we don’t have to feel thankful to be loved by God. His grace holds us when our hearts are too weary to count blessings and teaches us that even the smallest moments of thanks can open the door to healing.
This month’s theme, “Gratitude and Grace,” invites you to notice the gentle ways God is still present in your life, through comfort, memories, and moments of peace that break through the ache.
Each verse in this November Bible reading plan is a reminder that gratitude and grace can coexist with grief. As you move through this month, may you find yourself resting in God’s kindness and slowly rediscovering the beauty of giving thanks, even with tears in your eyes.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
-Psalm 107:1

A Prayer for November:
God, thank You for being good even when life feels hard. Teach me to see Your grace in the small, quiet moments and to find gratitude even through my tears. Help me remember that thankfulness doesn’t ignore my pain, it invites You into it. Fill my heart with gentle reminders of Your love that never ends.
Amen.
How to Experience Gratitude and Grace this November
Gratitude may not come easily in seasons of loss, and grace can feel like something you have to work fo, but both are gifts from God that gently reshape your heart over time. You don’t have to force joy or pretend everything is okay. Instead, gratitude and grace can show up quietly, in moments of reflection, small acts of kindness, and choosing to notice the goodness that still exists.
Here are five simple ways to begin nurturing both gratitdue and grace in your everyday life, even in your grief.
1. Start a Daily Gratitude List. Each morning or evening, write down one thing you’re thankful for, even if it’s small, like a warm cup of coffee or a quiet moment. Gratitude grows as you notice the little gifts in your day.
2. Pause Before You Complain. When frustration rises, take a breath and ask God to help you respond with grace instead. Sometimes the smallest pause can open the door to peace and perspective.
3. Look for God’s Grace in Your Story. Reflect on moments where you’ve felt comforted, seen, or supported since your loss. These glimpses of grace remind you that God is still at work in your life.
4. Extend Grace to Yourself. Healing takes time. Be patient with your heart and remember that God isn’t asking for perfection, He’s offering compassion. Speak to yourself as gently as you would to a friend who is hurting.
5. Share Gratitude with Someone Else. Send a short note or message to someone who has blessed you. Expressing thanks not only encourages them but also deepens your own awareness of God’s goodness.
