Storms of grief don’t always roar loudly. They often whisper through sleepless nights, sudden tears, and quiet moments when your heart feels heavy without warning.
After losing a child, peace can feel distant, fragile, or even impossible to grasp. Yet, God gently reminds us that His peace isn’t dependent on our circumstances. It’s anchored in His presence.
He doesn’t always calm the storm right away, but He promises to calm our hearts in the middle of it. His peace is not the absence of pain, but the presence of His steady love.
This month’s theme, “Peace in the Storm,” invites you to rest in God’s comforting arms even as the waves of grief rise and fall. The 31 verses in this October Bible reading plan are chosen to remind you that you are not alone, even when the wind feels relentless.
God sees your tears, hears your cries, and walks beside you through every difficult moment. As you read each scripture, may His peace gently settle over your soul like a soft blanket on a cold night. Quiet, steady, and strong enough to carry you through.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
-John 14:27

A Prayer for October:
Jesus, my heart feels unsettled and heavy with grief. Please fill me with Your peace, the kind that quiets my fears and steadies my soul. Help me feel Your presence in the middle of this storm and remind me that I never have to face it alone.
Amen.
How to Have Peace in Your Storm this October
When grief feels like a storm you can’t escape, peace may feel distant or even impossible. Some days, your heart races, your mind won’t quiet down, and your spirit feels worn thin from holding so much pain.
In moments like this, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure how to steady your soul. But God’s peace isn’t something you have to earn or work hard to grasp. It’s a gift that He offers in the middle of the storm, right where you are.
Finding peace doesn’t always mean the storm disappears. Sometimes it simply means letting God quiet the storm inside you, even if the one around you continues to roar.
If you’re longing for peace but don’t know where to start, here are five gentle and practical ways to experience God’s peace right in the middle of your storm.
1. Begin Your Day with a Peace Verse. Choose one scripture from this month’s plan (like John 14:27 or Psalm 46:1) and read it each morning. Say it out loud when your heart starts to race or grief feels heavy.
2. Practice a “Breath Prayer” When Anxiety Rises. As you gently inhale, pray: “Jesus, give me peace.” As you exhale, pray: “I release my fears to You.” Repeat as often as needed.
3. Create a Soft Space for Stillness. Set aside even 5 quiet minutes a day to sit with God. No pressure to speak. Just let His presence meet you in the silence.
4. Surround Yourself with Soothing Worship. Play peaceful worship music that reminds you of God’s nearness. Let the lyrics wash over your heart like a calming wave.
5. Journal the Moments God Carries You. At the end of the day, jot down one moment, even if it’s small, where you felt comfort, relief, or simply made it through something hard. These become reminders that God is with you in every storm.
