Did you know that there are certain promises of God that you can cling to when life gets hard? Because let’s face it…life can be really hard sometimes.
These are promises that I clung to after I lost my son, Sam. They’re promises that have brought healing to my heart, peace to my mind, and life to my spirit.
I pray that as you read these verses, you will feel the life inside of them. That the Holy Spirit would begin to minister to you wherever you’re at, whatever hard road you’re having to walk, whatever storm you’re having to go through.
That these will be light in the middle of the darkness for you.

What are God’s promises in the scripture?
I like to picture the promises of God in the Bible like life preservers.

When the storms of life hit us and we become so overwhelmed that we feel like we’re drowning, these Bible verses are life preservers that are thrown out to us that we can hold on to. These promises will keep us afloat until the storm dies down and we can swim to shore.
They literally keep us from drowning.
You see God knew that we were going to have troubles in this life:
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33
But in his goodness, because he’s such a good father, he planted these verses, these promises, all throughout the Bible to help us be able to walk through the valley until we can come out on the other side again.
The side where the waves have calmed, the storm is gone, and the sun is shining.

What is an unconditional promise of God?
This is the part of God’s promises that I love the most. These promises aren’t earned. You don’t have to be “good enough” or work hard to get them. And you can’t lose them. They are always there – waiting for that moment in your life when you need them most.
Now a little side note here.
Most of the promises I’m going to list here do have one condition. I know, I know, I said that you didn’t have to do anything to earn them. But there is just one important thing that you have to do before these promises will work in your life:
You have to believe in Jesus.
Why? Because he’s the source of all the promises. He’s how these promises are fulfilled. He is literally the peace that washes over us in the middle of our storm.
So if you don’t know Jesus, none of these promises will make sense. Because how can you have peace in the middle of such a raging storm?
My friends, I only have one answer: Jesus.
What is God’s most important promise?
Out of aaalllll the promises that are listed in the Bible, is there one that’s more important than the others? Or are they all equal?
I believe that there is one promise that is the most important promise we’re given in the Bible. This promise is the foundation to our faith, to our lives, and to all the other promises.
This promise is the source of hope that we need when life gets hard. Without this promise, there would be no point in life.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
–John 3:16
That gift that Jesus gave us – dying for us – is the single most greatest gift that we will ever have received. Because through that gift we’re given the greatest promise we’ll ever receive – eternal life.

Living forever with Jesus, with our loved ones who’ve passed before us (some way too soon), and the hope that we’ll see them again, is the greatest gift that we could receive on this side of heaven.
How do you use these promises in your life?
So now that you know what the promise is for, how do you use it in your life?
Place these verses in your heart.
Read them over and over. Write them on sticky notes and place them on your bathroom mirror or on the wall above your computer at work or at your desk at home.

You need to have these constantly filling your heart.
Because once these promises are in your heart, the Holy Spirit will be able to bring back to your memory the exact verse you need for that moment.
It’s really amazing.

This happened for me when I lost Sam. After he died I didn’t have the mental capacity to remember scriptures to bring me comfort. I didn’t even have the mental capacity to get dressed in the mornings, much less try to remember Bible verses I’ve read before.
But I didn’t have to.
The Holy Spirit was right there, ministering to me. Pulling those verses back up in my mind that I had read over and over throughout the course of my life.
These verses literally became life preservers for me. I clung to them.
When the Holy Spirit would bring them to my mind I would literally repeat them over and over again until I could feel the peace of that promise wash over me.
So my suggestion to you would be to really meditate on these verses. Write them down. Repeat them in your head.
I wouldn’t say you would have to memorize them, because a lot of the verses the Holy Spirit brought back to my mind weren’t ones I sat down and memorized at my desk. They were just ones that I had meditated on in the past. Ones that I had written down. Ones that stuck out to me as I was reading and I would just think about them.
Then when the storms of life hit, the Holy Spirit will bring back to your mind the exact verse you need, at the exact moment you need it. But you need to first put them in there.
