When you’re grieving, trust can feel fragile. Losing your child may have left you asking the question…
“Why?”
Why did it have to happen this way?
Why couldn’t things have turned out different?
You’re just there struggling to see how anything good could come from such deep pain.
Trusting God’s plan doesn’t mean you have all the answers. It just means you’re choosing to believe that He is still good and He is still for you, even if it feels like your life has shattered.
Scripture reminds us that God’s ways are higher than ours and that His plans are filled with purpose, even when they don’t make sense.
This month’s theme, “Trust in God’s Plan,” is about learning to rest in His wisdom when our own understanding fails. Each verse in this September Bible reading plan offers a gentle reminder that God is guiding your steps, holding your heart, and working for your good.
As you journey through these scriptures, may you be encouraged to loosen your grip on the “why” and find peace in the One who promises to never leave you, never forsake you, and to bring beauty out of ashes.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6

A Prayer for September:
Jesus, trusting Your plan feels so hard when life hasn’t gone the way I hoped. Please calm my anxious thoughts and help me rest in Your wisdom instead of my own. Teach me to surrender my questions and my pain to You, and remind me that Your plan is always good, even when I cannot see it.
Amen.
Trust in God’s Plan in September
Learning to trust God’s plan in the middle of grief is not easy. It can be so hard to see anything beyond the grief. We know it says that God works all things for good, but how in the world can good come out of such deep pain.
Here’s what you have to remember: Trust doesn’t happen all at once. It grows slowly, step by step, choice by choice as we choose to surrender our fears and lean on His promises one moment at a time.
If you’re struggling to hold on to faith, here are 5 simple and practical ways you can begin to trust God’s plan, even when nothing makes sense.
1. Surrender the “Why” to God. Instead of exhausting yourself with questions you may never have answers to, bring your “whys” honestly to God. Release them in prayer, trusting that one day we will understand (John 13:7).
2. Hold On to God’s Promises. Write down one verse about God’s faithfulness or wisdom (like Jeremiah 29:11 or Proverbs 3:5-6) and place it somewhere you’ll see it. And then every time a doubt comes in your mind, replace that doubt with His truth.
3. Reflect on God’s Past Faithfulness. Take time to remember how God has carried you in the past. Through all the other struggles, pain, or uncertainty you’ve been through. He was there through it all. Let those memories remind you that if He was there for you then, He will be there for you now.
4. Take One Step at a Time. You don’t need to know how you’re going to make it through today, or next week, or next year. Bring it in to how am I going to take the next step. And remind yourself that Jesus will be with you every single step. You’ll never have to walk this road alone.
5. Surround Yourself with Faith-Building Voices. Spend time in Scripture, listening to worship music, and surrounding yourself with friends who remind you of God’s goodness. Let their encouragement help you trust when your faith feels fragile. “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” -Ecclesiastes 4:12
Reflection Questions
1-What “why” questions have you been holding onto that you can release into God’s hands today?
2-Which promise of God brings you the most comfort when life doesn’t make sense?
3-How has God shown His faithfulness to you in the past, and how does that encourage you now?
4-What is one small step of obedience or faith you can take today, even without knowing what comes next?
5-Who or what in your life helps remind you of God’s goodness when your trust feels shaky?
