Are you interested in starting a blog to share your story? After losing my son I wanted to be able to tell my story – my story of loss and hope. If you find yourself in that same position, wanting to share your story with the world, a blog is a great way to do just that! Here are the first few steps you can take to start your blog.

Starting a blog can feel very overwhelming, especially if you have no idea where to start. After I lost Sam I knew I wanted to share my story, to share how Jesus carried me through the biggest storm that I’ve ever had to walk through. I wanted to be able to encourage other grieving mothers that…
>> There is hope
>> There is healing
>> There is life after loss
I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to do this, I just knew I needed to do this.
After I discovered starting a blog as a way to write and tell my story I knew that was it.
So if that’s you and you’re ready to get started sharing your story through blogging, then this post is for you!
Starting a Blog to Find Purpose After Loss
I know it can feel overwhelming thinking of all the things that you might have to do to get your blog up and running. So I wanted to bring you some easy steps that you can take right now to begin the process of starting your blog so you can share your story with the world.
In this post we are going to go over the benefits of blogging, what you need to get started, and the cheapest way you can get started blogging.
It’s my hope that after reading this post you will feel more prepared to take those first steps in starting your blog!
So if you’re ready, let’s start your blog so you can share your story with the world and find new purpose after losing your child.
What are the benefits of starting and owning a blog?
There are so many ways that you can share your story. You can write a book, start a social media account, start a podcast, and so much more. So what’s the benefit of starting and owning a blog?
When you start a blog it’s something that you own. Your social media accounts are not owned by you and they can be shut down without notice.
I’ve heard many horror stories of people building their business on a social media account and without notice the social media platform shutting their account down.
If all they’ve done is build their business on this account, then their whole business is gone.
Writing a book is a great option, but it definitely requires some knowledge and skill in putting together a book, publishing a book, and selling a book.
Starting a blog is similar to writing a book with a much smaller barrier to entry. Literally all you need is your computer, some internet, and a few other things that we’ll talk about in the next point.
Now, just like anything, a blog can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be. But today we’re going to talk about doing it the easy way and then you can always add more to it as you go along in your blogging journey.
What do you need to get a blog started?

There are a few things that you need to start a blog.
- A domain name – which is basically just the name of your website.
- A hosting platform – which is where your website is going to live on the internet. If your blog was a car, the hosting platform is the parking garage for your car.
- And that’s basically it.
See I told you this was going to be easy!
There are things that you will be good to add to these two things eventually, but my goal of this post is to let you know what you need to get started, and that’s really it!
You can start blogging on your website with just a domain name and a hosting platform.
In the next point, I’m going to go over my recommendation for how to get both a domain name and a hosting platform at a very reasonable price!
What is the cheapest way to start a blog?
When I first started my blog we were beyond broke. We didn’t have extra money to be throwing away on different things that I could do to share my story. That’s why I loved the idea of starting a blog! It’s so inexpensive to get started!
The hosting platform that I use and recommend is Siteground. When I first started I used Bluehost, but I noticed my site was not running smooth. It felt clunky and slow.
But when I switched to Siteground I immediately noticed a difference in the speed of my website.
I’ve also heard stories of people who were using Bluehost, one of their posts went viral on Pinterest, and they got a lot of traffic to their website. The amount of traffic that came in caused their site to crash. Bluehost couldn’t withhold the surge of traffic on their site.
And on top of that it took days for the website to come back on again. Think of all the missed traffic and potential lives changed that weren’t able to get on this website.
The recommendations of everyone in this situation were to switch to Siteground, so that’s what I did and I haven’t looked back since!
If you use this link you can get 80% off your first year!
Plus another great thing about Siteground is you get a free domain when you purchase their hosting plan! So everything you need to get started is provided for you.
That’s it!
- Go to Siteground and pick your hosting plan (I would recommend starting with the ‘StartUp’ plan)
- Pick your domain name in the sign up process
