Stepping out in faith and doing something that God has called you to do can be scary.
You don’t know how it’s going to work out.
What if you fall on your face?
You don’t know what the next step is going to look like.
How do you know it’s really God?
And what about the fear.
Fear of failing.
Fear of messing up.
Fear of looking stupid.
Fear of what stepping out will stir up with the enemy.
That last one was one that I never really worried about. I mean, God is bigger than the enemy.
1. Know Scripture
We all know what our weapon is against the enemy. The Word of God! It’s the one thing we’re told is a sword against the plans of the enemy.
And when we’re stepping out in faith, this weapon is priceless!
So it’s vital that we spend time with God, meditating on his Word. For when we need a weapon to bring against the enemy, the Holy Spirit can bring to our remembrance all the scripture we’ve hidden in our hearts. Spending no time in preparation for our battles is the equivalent of a soldier going to war carrying a gun with no bullets.
Not good.
In this context – God being bigger than the enemy – what does Scripture tell us?

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 John 4:4
So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear.”
Hebrews 13:6
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
2. Recognize the Power of Your Message
What if God is asking you to share a message that you know people need to hear, but you also know that the enemy is going to fight you back on it.
Now the “raised in church” side of me knows all the right things to say and what I should believe. But what happens when I actually step out and start sharing my message and the enemy starts hitting me.
Do I run back into my room, shut the door, power off my computer, and tuck my message away safely in my heart and keep it in there until I get to heaven?
I have to say I was tempted to do just that.
You see, after losing Sam I was a little gun shy to do anything that might cause more pain and heartache. And I’m afraid to say that I really toyed with the idea of locking my message away and living peacefully in the four walls of my home.
But I know what my story is full of…..
Hope.
And hope is a powerful thing when you’re facing deep grief and sadness in your life.

I want you to stop right now and think of your message.
What is the message that is burning inside of you?
What is the message that you KNOW the Holy Spirit is wanting you to tell the world?
What will happen inside people if you boldly tell your story?
Recognize the POWER in your message. What will stepping out in faith and sharing that message bring to people?
I want to challenge you to write it down. Write down the power that your message brings. Keep this in front of you to cause boldness to rise up inside of you when the enemy would want you to remain silent!
3. Just Do It
Sometimes you have to just step out and do it. Forget perfection. Forget waiting on the perfect situation with the perfect people at the perfect time.
If you feel the nudging of the Holy Spirit, step out in faith and share!
That’s exactly what happened to me. An opportunity presented itself and so I shared my story.

My friend has a magazine she publishes once a month and she reached out wanting me to share my story of loss and hope with her readers.
And I knew what I had to do.
I couldn’t lock that message up inside my heart, selfishly keeping the power of it inside my heart for only me to revisit when I needed it. God was calling me to be open, to be vulnerable, to let the world know the POWER OF HOPE!
I want y’all to know….the VERY DAY that magazine hit people’s mailboxes, the enemy hit my family.
And you know what happened at that moment?
- Did I cower in fear of the enemy and regret sharing my story of hope?
- Did I call everyone and tell them to burn their magazine?
- Did I vow to never, ever share my story again?
No.
In fact it had the opposite effect on my heart.
I realized that the power my story held must really scare the enemy for him to fight it the very moment people started reading it. And at that moment, I felt a boldness rise up in me. I won’t let the enemy stop me from opening up and screaming God’s faithfulness.
So sister, let’s put our boots on and go to war, fighting to declare the love of a Father that this world is desperately crying out for.
What is the message that God has placed in your heart?
Does stepping out in faith scare you?
What’s one thing you can do today to help overcome that fear?
If you need some encouragement, here’s a story of one time that God asked me to step out in faith and I almost listened to my fear over my faith.

Hi my name is Alisha. I am a widow of almost 7 years , I sense God asking me to take a step of faith your post has encouraged me to. Can you share the link to the magazine article I would love to read your story . Also , how did you know it was God asking you to step out in faith and not just your own mind ?
Hi Alisha,
Thank you so much for commenting! Stepping out in faith can be so scary. Sometimes it’s hard to know if it’s really God or if it’s just ourselves. And a lot of times we won’t know for sure before we take that step of faith. For me personally in this situation (and many other times in my life) I didn’t act on my first thought about it. But it just kept coming up and I couldn’t get it out of my head. Sometimes God would confirm it for me through other sources, but a lot of times I would say, Okay God. I feel like you’re asking me to do this, so I’m going to step out in faith trusting that you’re going to walk with me while I take these steps.” And every time, as soon as I took the step, I knew it was him. But I didn’t know until I took that step of faith. I guess that’s why they call it a step of faith. It wouldn’t take much faith if I knew all the answers beforehand, lol!
As for this article, it was an article my friend printed and mailed, so unfortunately, there’s not a copy of it online.
I pray that you will feel God with you as you take a step of faith! And I’m sorry for the loss of your sweet husband. My Sam has been gone for 7 years as well.
Thank you for commenting!
