When the storm dies down.
Everything becomes quiet.
You look around.

And you see all of the destruction that happened in this storm.

Your heart?

All the pieces are now shattered.

Your “house”?

Completely gone. Nothing but the foundation.

And as you sit and survey the damage, you wonder,

“How am I supposed to go on now that everything has been destroyed?”

I understand completely.

When we lost our 4-year-old son I didn’t see how we would make it through.

When we drove away from the grave site, leaving him there, I couldn’t see an end to the pain. It seemed like this pain, this grief would never end.

But I want to encourage you friends.

Years later I can say that while the pain and grief never leave, it changes in severity as time goes on.

Now when the pain and grief come it’s not as crippling as it was in the beginning stages of the grief.

And all of that is because of one person.

Jesus.

He’s the reason I was able to keep living.

In those early days, months, years when even the thought of taking another step was debilitating – He carried me.

Not only did he carry me that next day or that next week…he carried me all the way through the valley of the shadow of death.

And he can do the same for you too.

The time it takes to get through that valley is different for everyone, but I can promise you this….

  • If you allow him to carry you
  • If you give him your burden every time it weighs heavy on you
  • If you take on his yoke which is easy and light

Then you WILL make it through. You WILL see the sunrise again.

I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that everything will be like it was before your storm hit. Because it won’t.

Your life has changed and the way you look at life has changed.

But I can promise you that your life can have meaning and purpose and joy and laughter again.

This is my prayer for you sweet friend:

I pray that these scriptures of healing wash over your tired, weary soul and breathe life to you. I pray that the truths of these promises will sustain you and give you strength. And I pray that your heart will be put back together piece by piece by the strength of his love.

I’m here for you if you ever need to talk to someone who gets it.

Now read these scriptures and let them bring healing to your soul.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.

Psalm 18:16

Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.

2 Kings 20:5

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

Psalm 119:50

Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

Psalm 145:18-19

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Isaiah 41:13

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up

Psalm 71:20

I encourage you to journal through these scriptures. Really meditate on them and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart.
