was this god's desisn - trusting God in the hard times

This post is in link up with Five Minute Friday (FMF). Every Friday we gather around a single word prompt to free write for five minutes flat — no overthinking, no editing . . . just write! Today’s word is Design.

What do we do when God’s design for our lives doesn’t match our own design?

Sometimes in life things happen that aren’t in our plans. Things that shake us and sometimes even completely wipe us out until there’s nothing left.

How do we navigate through hurt that deep? How are we supposed to make it through a storm so loud and so strong that it completely destroys everything?

When I lost my 4 year old son I was sitting in a storm that was screaming. The rain was so heavy and the wind was so loud and the hurt was so deep that it was hard to see past the pain.

Was this God’s design for me?

I heard a pastor say one time that God was so masterful at bringing good out of bad situations that sometimes it can seem that God caused the bad situation.

But here’s one thing I know about my God. These truths were foundational in getting me through those first days, months, and years after losing Sam.

God is good.
God is faithful.

My circumstances don’t change those truths.

So even in the midst of losing Sam, God is still good. God is still faithful.

And I’ve seen the evidence of those truths in my journey of healing.

From the moment the doctor came in and said “Sam is no longer with us” to this moment, Jesus has carried me. He has lovingly put my heart back together, piece by piece.

So was it God’s design for me to lose my son?

I can’t answer that for sure.

But one thing I can answer for sure is that He’s good and He’s faithful. And He’s carried me through every cry, every hurt, every pain.

He’s carried me all the way through my valley.

And he’s healed my heart one piece at a time with the strength of his love.
