Have you been worried about the future? Have you been worrying about the rising cost of everything? God has shown me something that I can’t wait to share with you. I believe it will encourage you during this uncertain time in the world.

How to Not be Worried About the Future

Lately, I have been feeling the unrest that’s happening in America and in the world, and I know you probably feel it too. The uncertainty you feel in the present moment. The worry about future events and what’s going to happen. The rising price of food, gas, and everything – it can be so overwhelming.

It’s easy to let your mind be filled with anxious thoughts like: “How am I going to make it through? God, how are we going to make it through this really hard time in the economy, in our lives, in our family?”

I know I’ve been feeling that too.

Recently, God showed me something that has helped me so much, and I knew I wanted to share these stories with you. The lesson it taught me, and some scriptures I have been speaking over my family in our daily life, have been such an encouragement. These are really amazing promises that I know will bless you and your family as well.

So, if you’re in that place of feeling fear of the future, wondering how it’s all going to work out, I want you to settle in and get ready to be encouraged with these stories, this lesson, and these scriptures.

A Beautiful Reminder of God’s Goodness

The first story I want to share with you is actually something I watched on YouTube. It was about the producers of the movie War Room and their mom (who is the person they based the praying character in that movie on).

In this video, they shared how their mom prays. They said that she writes prayers on sticky notes, sticks them in her Bible, and prays over them until they’re answered. Then she removes them from her Bible.

One day, she wrote a specific prayer on a Post-It note and stuck it in her Bible.

She was getting older and took care of her husband, but she was very active in her yard and garden. Her sons were worried about her carrying buckets of water, fertilizer, and everything else around the yard. They kept telling her, “Mom, you have to take care of yourself. If something happens to you, who’s going to take care of Dad?”

Her birthday came, and one of her sons woke up that morning and had a sudden realization. He thought, We need to get her a golf cart so she can put her stuff in it and drive it around the yard, making it easier on her.

He called his brothers and their dad and asked, “Would y’all want to pitch in and get Mom a golf cart?” They all agreed.

That day, he went out and bought the golf cart.

Later, her whole family came over to celebrate her birthday. They were all standing in the driveway when her son pulled around the corner in the golf cart.

She immediately started crying, ran inside, and grabbed the Post-It note where she had written her prayer. She brought it out to them and showed them what she had asked God for…

A golf cart for her birthday.

In His goodness, God woke her son up and put it on his heart to buy her that golf cart she had prayed for.

Here’s the video if you would like to watch it:

This is such a beautiful reminder of God’s goodness and how much He cares about even the little details, like providing an elderly lady with the golf cart she wanted.

God Cares about even the Smallest Details of our Lives

A few weeks after watching that video on YouTube, I heard these next two stories on my friend Jena’s podcast, My Southern Godmother. On the show, Jena and her friend Miss Debbie share wisdom and lessons that Miss Debbie has learned throughout her life and from God.

These two stories come from this episode. I want to briefly tell you these stories that ministered to my heart and aligned perfectly with the first story I saw on YouTube.

When I heard these stories on the episode, I knew God was trying to show me something. He gave me three stories in a short amount of time, and I could feel Him trying to tell me something important.

The first story was about Miss Debbie and her husband. They were at church when a missionary and his wife came to speak. One evening, the missionary’s wife shared a story from when they were missionaries in China a long time ago, back when their kids were little.

The missionary’s young daughter had gotten very sick, and they weren’t sure if she was going to make it. Thankfully, she recovered. After fully recovering, the first thing she wanted to eat was Jell-O.

Her mom, however, didn’t have any Jell-O to give her. Heartbroken, she prepared what she did have and thought to herself, The next time I go to the store, I’ll buy some Jell-O so she can have it.

Not long after they received a box from the United States. The box contained Bibles, books, and resources to distribute to the Chinese people.

As they unpacked everything, they reached the very bottom of the box and there at the bottom…

They found an entire layer of Jell-O.

This was during a time when there was no overnight shipping or fast delivery. The box, the missionary’s wife explained, had likely been in transit for at least three months. That meant that three months earlier, God had placed it on someone’s heart to include that layer of Jell-O in the box.

God knew that three months later, this little girl would recover from her illness and want some Jell-O.

A Powerful Reminder of God’s Care and Provision

The second story she told in this podcast episode is just as incredible.

Miss Debbie and her husband had lost their businesses. There was a specific reason for their loss, which she explains in detail in the episode, but I want to focus on this part of her story because it ties into what God has shown me.

After losing their businesses, they found themselves in a really hard financial place.

One Sunday, they were at church, and Miss Debbie was trying to figure out what she was going to make for lunch. She leaned over to her husband and asked, “Do you have any cash?”

He replied, “I think I have a few dollars. Why?”

She explained, “Well, I have a loaf of bread, some bacon, and some lettuce, so we can make BLTs. But I don’t have any tomatoes. When we leave church today, I’ll just run to the store and grab one tomato so we can have BLTs for lunch.”

He agreed, and after the church service, they went to their Sunday school class.

When the class ended, a young man approached them and said, “Miss Debbie, I have something for you.” He handed her a Kroger bag and added, “My mom picked these for you this morning.”

Curious, she opened the bag, looked inside, and gasped at what she saw.

Inside was an entire bag full of tomatoes!

Miss Debbie shared that she still doesn’t know this woman and has never met her to this day.

God woke this woman up that morning, prompted her to pick a bag full of tomatoes, and had her send them to someone she had never met just so Miss Debbie could have tomatoes for her BLTs.

He’s a Good Father

When I heard Miss Debbie tell this story, I cried and cried because it touched my heart so much. God cares about every little detail of your life. And not only that…

He goes before you to work things out for your good.

That future, which seems so uncertain and so scary because you don’t know what’s going to happen…

He’s already there.

He’s already preparing for you and making provision for you, even down to the little details like a golf cart, Jell-O, and tomatoes.

So if you’re worried right now about life, whether it’s the present or the future, or if something’s going on in your life and you’re not sure how you’re going to make it through, I want you to be encouraged. God is already there. He goes before you and prepares a way for you.

He is there waiting with His goodness, His love, His provision, and His peace – whatever it is you need in that situation. He is already there.

I’m just blown away by His goodness. He’s such a good Father.

Matthew 7:11 says, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!”

We don’t have to worry about what’s going to happen or even what is happening right now, because He’s there, and He’s so good.

Bible Verses if You’re Worried about the Future

I want to share with you three scriptures that I have been speaking over my family during this time of uncertainty.

With so much going on in the world right now, these are some good promises you can claim for yourself and your family. No matter what happens in the world, we’re going to be okay.

Jeremiah 17:7-8:

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

This verse reminds us that if we trust in God and place our confidence in Him, we don’t have to worry about what’s happening around us. Our roots are grounded in Him, not in the world.

No matter what challenges come – whether it’s heat or drought – the tree with its roots planted in God will always have green leaves and bear fruit. Even if the world around it becomes a wasteland, that tree will still thrive.

This is a promise you can claim! Because your confidence is in God, you and your family will be okay. The world’s troubles won’t affect you because your roots are in Him.

Psalm 37:25-26:

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.”

This is a great promise that we can claim. It assures us that we will never be forsaken, and our children will never beg for bread.

God is our provider and our source. He goes before us and makes provisions for us even before we know we need them.

Psalm 37:19:

“In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.”

No matter what is happening around us, it will not touch us. We will not wither, and we will enjoy plenty even in times of famine and disaster.

When we pray and speak scripture over ourselves and our families, we are declaring ultimate truth. This truth is a powerful weapon we can use against the enemy, as well as against our fears and worries.

Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword.”

Isaiah 55:11: “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

When you speak God’s word, the promises in those verses will not come back void. They will accomplish what God intends for them to accomplish.

The promises in scripture are something you can confidently build your life on.

You can have confidence in the promises that God gives because His promises are “yes and amen.”

A Prayer of Peace For You

If you are feeling the uncertainty of life, if you’re feeling worried at all, I pray that God would pour out His peace upon your heart. I pray that you would feel Him close to you and realize that the future, though it seems so uncertain, is already in His hands. He is making provisions for you before you even know you need them.

You don’t know what you’re going to need in the future. You don’t know what you’ll need tomorrow, a week from now, or a month from now. But He does. He is already there, making a way for you, preparing for your needs before you even recognize them.

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.”

I pray that your confidence today would not be in the world or what the world has to offer, but in Him. He is constant. He is steadfast. He is good. He is faithful.

He is the one we can confidently build our lives upon and know that…

Everything will be okay.
